“Will's piano-based songs and Weasel's superb drumming on a stripped-down kit make a heady and hypnotic sound that's both highly original and hugely accessible” - Grapevine for Music
"Get your ears around this. Wonderful Americana...!" - Richard Pitt, BBC Introducing
Will Lawton & Weasel Howlett started collaborating musically in 2015. After three years of jamming, performing and recording they are releasing their debut album 'Fossils Of The Mind' in January 2018.
The album was funded through live performances, and a hugely successful Kickstarter campaign. They had the immense pleasure of recording the music at Real World Studios in Wiltshire, England.
Weasel knew he wanted to be in a band before he even knew what he wanted to play. A chance encounter with a death metal drummer at school helped him find his niche, and he formed his first band aged 12, performed his first gig aged 15 and was recording aged 16.
Lucky enough to play the legendary London Astoria before it's demolition in 2009 with his band Tunguska Butterfly, he's been setting the pace for bands from punk to blues ever since
With influences ranging from grunge and punk, to prog rock and jazz, Weasel is a master of rhythm who plays with time, and creates both a creative space and a driving heartbeat for Will's melodic chords.
Will has played piano since the age of 12, but it was a year's world travel armed only with a guitar that made him realise the piano was his true calling. Releasing his first music on tape to his school friends, Will has recorded and released his work ever since, leading to an enviable discography.
His bands have ranged from funk-soul, to folk, to electronic dance music, but he has come to rest as a singer-songwriter with a rock and jazz influence. He's played festivals all over the South West with his band The Home Fires, and solo, and has opened the show for BBC Folk Awards winners Philip Henry and Hannah Martin. He has also guested and sessioned for Bath-based band 'The Heavy'.
Fossils of the Mind is the culmination of Will's songwriting career and Weasel's rhythmic influence, and marks the maturation of a compelling and talented duo who bring inspiration from opposing genres of music to create something entirely their own.
Will and Weasel are signed to Supermarine Music.
